Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived to Cairo, Monday, to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for talks on bilateral relations and the security situation in the region. During the trip, Putin is also expected to finalise a deal to build a nuclear plant in Egypt. The 4,800-megawatt capacity plant will reportedly be built at el-Daba in the Matrouh Governorate. Earlier in the day, Putin made a surprise visit to the Khmeimim Russian military base in Syria's Latakia province, where the Russian President announced the beginning of the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country. After Egypt, Putin is scheduled to travel to Ankara to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for talks on bilateral relations as well as the security situation in the Middle East, in particular the Syrian conflict and US President Donald Trump's recent decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli State.
