Egypt: Arrests made as protesters burn Israeli flags in furious protest

Arrests were made by Egyptian security forces as hundreds of protesters rallied at the Egyptian Journalists' Syndicate building in Cairo on Thursday, denouncing US President Donald Trump's declaration recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Protesters chanted anti-Israeli slogans and burned Israeli flags until security forces descended on the area to defuse the anti-Trump rally. Trump... Еще recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday in a live televised address from Washington D.C. and started the process of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv. The decision sparked immediate outrage and fury from Palestinians, with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh calling for a «new intifada» against Israel. Israel has always claimed Jerusalem as its capital while Palestinians demand that annexed East Jerusalem becomes the capital of a future Palestinian state.
