Ecuador Vice President Jorge Glas was sentenced to six years in prison in Quito, Ecuador, on Wednesday for taking bribes from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht. Judge Edgar Flores gave the guilty verdict citing bribes of $13.5m (€10.2m) that were paid to Glas by the Brazilian company during his time in term. A former executive of the firm earlier revealed that the company had paid $33,396... Еще,116 (€28,209,699) in bribes to secure contracts since 2007. Glas' attorney Galo Franco Loor has said his client is innocent and will be appealing the decision. Glas was the highest-ranking politician to be implicated in the region-wide Odebrecht corruption scandal. He was suspended by President Lenin Moreno in August 2017, and arrested by police in October.
