Ecuadorians returned to sports courts and gyms, as seen in Quito on Monday, after the coronavirus lockdown restrictions were lifted for the first time since February.
People could be seen playing tennis, basketball and football outdoors, as well as visiting gyms under the usual coronavirus hygiene and distancing measures, which still remain in place.
Ronald Leon, a tennis player, said, «[We want] no more control, because from the moment we leave our houses we know what needs to be done, what we must do and we come here to make exercise taking note of what the government says. Good manners overall, having good manners at each sport we make: tennis, soccer, any sport.»
Meanwhile, Quito's Mayor Jorge Yunda visited a recently reopened gym, saying, «Little by little we need to keep working because the economical situation is extremely complicated not only in this town, but nationwide.»
Ecuador has reported over 118,900 cases of the coronavirus, according to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University. At least 10,922 people have died with the virus.
