Former President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, spoke about the current political situation in Ecuador, describing it as a «nightmare», during a press conference in Quito. Correa described a constitutional break-down in the country and called on the Ecuadorian citizens to «wake up and realise the lies». «We could not imagine, six months back, what we are living through now; the destruction of the... Еще Alianza Pais party, the destruction of the Citizen’s Revolution, a coup, persecution of our people, our vice president imprisoned», said the former president. Correa currently lives in Belgium, and affirmed that he cannot move back to Ecuador in the next few years, for «deep personal reasons». Correa said he is planning a visit to imprisoned former Vice President Jorge Glas, who is currently under investigation for corruption. Correa described what had happened to Glas as a «big injustice». In August, current president Lenin Moreno suspended Glas from his position, accusing him of not «serving the country in a united effort.» Prosecutors also accused Glas of receiving $13.5 million (€11.3 million) in bribes from the Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht, and he now faces between three and five years in jail.
