Ecuador: Parents of Swede suspected of plotting against Moreno plea for his release

The parents of a Swedish programmer with alleged links to Wikileaks, Ola Bini, made an emotional plea to Quito to release their son on Tuesday, after he was detained in Ecuador last Thursday, hours after Julian Assange’s arrest in London. «We are certain that he is innocent of what he is being accused of,» said Bini’s father Dag Gustafsson who said his son was arrested while boarding a plane for... Еще Japan for a martial arts course. Bini is reportedly suspected of plotting to blackmail Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno due his annulment of Assange’s asylum status and the latter’s subsequent arrest, with Ecuadorian Interior Minister Maria Paula Romo claiming that Bini traveled at least a dozen times to meet with Assange at the embassy in London. Bini’s father, however, claimed his son and Assange are simply friends. «The only thing we know is that Ola is a friend of Julian Assange, nothing more,» Gustaffson said. Carlos Soria, the lawyer representing Bini, briefed the press regarding the specifics of the arrest and the detainment of his client, saying Ecuadorian officials pressured Bini to sign a document in order to be allowed to contact his lawyers. According to reports, Ecuadorian prosecutors intend to lay hacking-related charges on Bini.
