Former Ecuadorian foreign minister Ricardo Patino condemned the «handover» of Julian Assange to UK authorities at a press conference in Quito on Thursday.
Patino, who was in office when Assange was granted asylum in 2012, criticised the Ecuadorian government for terminating the Australian's asylum at its London embassy, describing it as a «shameful act».
The co-founder of WikiLeaks was arrested... Еще by British police on Thursday and will now face extradition to the US.
Assange and WikiLeaks were also accused interfered in Ecuadorian affairs by Interior Minister Paulo Romo.
She said that at least one Russian hacker involved with the organisation was living in the country and had connections with the former foreign minister.
Patino denied the allegations.
«No one needs to destabilise a government that is destabilising itself,» he fired back.
