Former Ecuadorian foreign minister Ricardo Patino said President Lenin Moreno had «betrayed his homeland» by allowing the arrest of Julian Assange in an interview with RT from Quito on Friday.
Patino, who was in office when Assange was granted asylum in 2012, accused the Ecuadorian government of breaking the constitution protecting citizens from extradition.
The co-founder of WikiLeaks became a... Еще naturalised citizen in 2018. This was suspended on Thursday, alongside his asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
British police were invited inside the building by the ambassador to make the arrest and the Australian now faces extradition proceedings to the US.
Patino also expressed concern that Assange could face torture or even the death penalty if extradited.
