Eight members of the Shamasneh family, including a handicapped man of 84 and a 75-year old woman, were evicted from their home in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah, early Tuesday morning, after losing a legal battle in the Israeli courts. The Palestinian family had resided in the property since 1964.
«They entered the home like monsters», said Fahamiya Shamasneh following the... Еще eviction. «I told them that I'm not going to leave my home. They carried me out. They brought a big car and carried everything from the house inside», she added.
A member of the Shamasneh family later attempted to break into the house through the roof. He was stopped immediately by a police officer but was soon released after receiving an arrest warning. Friends, neighbours and activists gathered outside the house to protest the eviction. One of the activists spray-painted the word «Theft» on the house wall.
In 2013, the Israeli Supreme Court ordered the eviction of the Shamasneh family but allowed a year and a half extension, which was later prolonged. However, the Execution Office determined Monday that the eviction was to be completed the following day. The house was reclaimed by a purported heir of its original Jewish owners before being sold to unnamed owners.
