Еще stretcherSCRIPTFresh clashes erupted inside the Al-Aqsa compound in East Jerusalem, Thursday, just one hour after Palestinian worshippers entered the mosque for the first time in two weeks.Israeli security personnel reportedly fired rubber bullets, tear gas, and stun grenades at the protesters. The Palestinian Red Crescent is reported to have treated at least 56 worshippers who were injured during the clashes. The violence followed Muslim protesters marching through the old city of Jerusalem chanting, hanging a Palestinian flag from a building inside the compound, an act deemed illegal by Israeli law in the occupied territory. As clashes took place inside the compound, Israeli forces closed the Remission Gate (Bab al-Hutta) entrance to the compound. Tensions have escalated in recent weeks after Israeli security measures were implemented at the site in the wake of a shootout inside the compound on July 14, which left two Israeli policemen and three Palestinians dead.
