Officials, experts and residents were commenting on a recent decision of Israel's Supreme Court in East Jerusalem on Saturday. It upheld a lower court's 2017 decision that ruled in favour of a Jewish settler organisation's right to lease three church properties in Jerusalem's Old City. They include the historic Petra and Imperial hotels.
«There is a conspiracy against Jerusalem and all of its... Еще holy sites. Those who target Al-Aqsa and plan to divide in time and place are the same people who are assaulting our Christian Endowments and our properties near the Hebron Gate. We think that targeting the Orthodox buildings near Hebron Gate amounts to targeting the Arab Jerusalem,» said Attallah Hanna, Archbishop of Sebastia from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
Ateret Cohanim, a settler organisation aimed at appropriating Palestinian land in East Jerusalem's historic Palestinian area, purchased three renewable 99-year leases through three companies in 2004. The Greek Orthodox Church said the agreements were signed by a corrupt official who had no authority to make the deals.
