Dutch court blocks man's bid to become 20 years younger — interview

A 69-year-old Dutchman who lost a legal battle to change his date of birth gave an interview to RT from his home in Arnhem on Tuesday. Self-styled positivity guru Emile Ratelband wanted to change his birth date by 20 years. He said his official age did not reflect his physical and emotional state and was causing him difficulties in his professional and love life. Basing his arguments upon a... Еще doctors report claiming he was around 40 years old, Ratelband decided to test the boundaries of the law. «Why is is possible to change your family name, how it's possible to change your first name, you can change your nationality, and even can change your gender,» he told RT. «If I can choose all those things then also can choose my age.» The court said Dutch law assigned rights and obligations based on age and Ratelband's case could challenge those fundamentals. Despite the setback, the positivity guru has vowed to continue his legal fight and use the court's stated reasons in his appeal. «Our strategy was actually to lose the first court and then we can learn from this,» he revealed. «We have lost the battle, but we are going to win the war,» Ratelband concluded.
