Thousands took the streets of Kinshasa on Monday to protest the National Assembly's decision to appoint Ronsard Malonda as chairman of the independent national electoral commission, CENI.
Protesters were seen marching with signs and flags, while chanting slogans. The rally was reportedly joined by opposition leader Jean-Pierre Bemba.
Police used tear gas to disperse protesters.
Malonda is accused of playing a role in manipulation elections in favour of former President Joseph Kabila.
Malonda was endorsed to head CENI earlier this month.
