D'OH! Costly Homer Simpson statue divides opionions in Mexico

A statue of the hit US cartoon character Homer Simpson has divided opinions in Orizaba, in the Mexican state of Veracruz, as some argue the commemorative figure is both costly and a poor resemblance of the original, Friday. Visitor Edgar Perez said that the statue was in fitting with the city, as people of Orizaba have a «craziness and the great desire to generate controversy.» While Mayor of... Еще Orizaba Igor Roji said that the figure is a way to «promote the city on a national level.» The statue was made in honour of Orizaba native Humberto Velez; the man behind the voice of Homer Jay Simpson, in the Latin American version of the popular TV show. Rumour has it that the statue was much more expensive than originally planned, but Mayor of Orizaba Igor Roji denied claims that it cost 82,000 Mexican pesos ($4,400; €3,580) and instead put the final expenses at around 16,000 Mexican pesos ($865; €700).
