Cuba: Havana residents enjoy first day of home internet access

Cubans enjoyed their first day of legal internet connectivity from their homes in Havana as a new law came into effect on Monday. The law permits the import of routers and servers and for personal Wi-Fi networks to be set up, which previously only existed in under the radar of authorities. “It’s a very good idea because it’s not the same to come here to this theatre or to a Wi-FI park to... Еще connect. For me it's very comfortable to be able to use the service from home,” said one Cuban Wi-Fi user, Guadalupe Corales. Footage filmed by Ruptly on Monday showed locals still using government-installed Wi-Fi in public parks, which can be purchased for a few dollars an hour. Cuba began rolling out 3G mobile internet connectivity last December.
