The celebration took place at Pinar del Rio’s Revolution Square with citizens waving flags of the 26th of July Movement, with many wearing T-shirts with Ernesto «Che» Guevara, one of the major figures in the Cuban Revolution.National Rebellion Day commemorates the assault of the Moncada Barracks, in which a small band of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro stormed the barracks. This day is widely regarded as the start of the Cuban Revolution which eventually deposed the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in 1959.
