Cuba's National Assembly enacted the country's new constitution which was ratified through a February nation-wide referendum, in Havana on Wednesday.
Former Cuban President and First Secretary of Cuba's Communist Party Raul Castro addressed the assembly after the text's enactment during the extraordinary session.
«The constitution guarantees the continuity of the revolution and the... Еще irrevocability of our socialism,» said Castro in his assembly address which was also attended by the Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
«This law of laws is modern, reflects the historical circumstances of our society and provides legal framework to the changes in the last few years,» added Castro as the new constitution reportedly recognizes a limited role for the free market in the Communist-run Cuba.
The new constitution has 229 articles and reportedly introduces the role of Prime Minister in the government.
