Croatia: Vukovar protest condemns 'silence' on war crimes

Thousands of people attended a protest in the eastern Croatian city of Vukovar on Saturday over what they deem to be silence over war crimes carried out in the area during the Croatian War of Independence. Mayor of Vukovar Ivan Penava addressed the crowd saying, «I invite you all, including those who have not been with us today, to join us on this path towards a more righteous Croatia.» A war... Еще veteran expressed disappointment with state institutions saying, «They haven't done anything about finding out who committed those terrible crimes which took place all over Croatia and especially after the fall of Vukovar.» An estimated number of 1,798 to 5,000 people died during the siege of Vukovar in 1991, when the city was reportedly flattened by Yugoslav forces and Serb paramilitaries.
