After losing his ability to walk in an accident, Colombian entrepreneur Martin Londono came up with an inspiring idea to modify his wheelchair into a vehicle similar to an electric motorbike, that can reach a speed up to 30 kilometres per hour and help him move faster and more freely around his home city, Medellin.
After bringing a prototype of his vehicle to perfection, he decided to share this invention and help other disabled people who might be excluded from the work field because of their physical condition. He founded a delivery service which relies on physically impaired people, offering them jobs as couriers.
Martin Londono named his company MATT, which stands for Mobility, Accessibility, Time, and Work.
He explained on Saturday that his goal was to improve the mobility of people with disabilities and to make up for a «lack of opportunities.»
«People with reduced mobility who need a source of income, at the same time that we give them an opportunity to generate income, we give them the opportunity to move freely around the city in a device that was created for this purpose,» he added.
