Colombia: UN refugee chief backs Bogota's response to Venezuelan migrant crisis

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, hailed Colombia's response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in neighbouring Venezuela, at a joint press conference with Colombian President Ivan Duque in Bogota on Monday. «I want to congratulate the Colombian government and [migrant] recipient communities for their quick and pragmatic humanitarian response to the needs of nearly one... Еще million Venezuelan migrants and refugees,» said the UN envoy, following his visit to the Colombian-Venezuelan border on Sunday. For his part, Colombian leader thanked Grandi for supporting «the activities we have been carrying out as a government.» He also noted that «until there is a transition towards democracy and liberty in Venezuela, the exodus and mass migration will not stop.» Mandatory credit: Presidencia de la Republica — Colombia
