The Government of Colombia carried out checks on people crossing the border between Colombia and Venezuela to identify possible cases of coronavirus.
«What we are doing is making sure that the control measures at a border crossing [from which] the largest migratory flow in all of Colombia passes have some preventive measures. These measures will help mitigate, but not prevent, the arrival of a... Еще virus,» said Victor Bautista, secretary of borders and international cooperation for the government of Northern Santander.
According to reports, he previously confirmed that the closure of borders with Venezuela was not being considered as no cases had been identified in Cucuta.
Footage shows people waiting to cross the border wearing masks and washing their hands. Health workers can also be seen taking the temperature of some people.
«The requirement of the Colombian government so far I think was [to use] masks,» explained a Venezuelan citizen who had crossed the border from the Venezuelan side.
So far Colombia has confirmed nine cases of coronavirus in the country. For its part, Venezuela has not reported any cases but President Nicolas Maduro has decreed a health emergency and suspended flights from Europe and Colombia.
