The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) delegation was on the Simon Bolivar International Bridge to asses human rights conditions, after it was refused entry to Venezuela.
Footage filmed on Thursday shows IACHR Commissioner Esmeralda Arosemena de Troitino at the Colombian side of the border with Venezuela, where she talked to representatives of various NGOs and migrants from... Еще Venezuela. IACHR delegate Julissa Mantilla Falcon and Executive Secretary Paulo Abrao were also present on site.
«We have chosen this site because we know that we can make a very direct contact with people and it is an opportunity for us. I want to thank Colombia and the Colombian state for the opportunity it has given us, facilitating our arrival. We could not arrive directly to Caracas as we had planned, we had all our boarding passes, but it was not possible to let us even board in Panama for our trip to Caracas», said Commissioner de Troitino.
The IACHR delegation was also filmed on Friday at the Quinta Teresa colonial house in Cucuta, where hearings with Venezuelan NGOs and social organisations to document testimonies from human rights abuse victims were held.
The IACHR, which is the human rights organ of the Organisation of American State (OAS), was reportedly barred from boarding a plane from Panama to Caracas on Tuesday. The delegates were expected to inspect human rights conditions in Venezuela.
