Colombia: New president's inauguration blighted by protest

Newly inaugurated Colombian President Ivan Duque's first day in office was marred by protest in the capital Bogota this Tuesday. Demonstrators from a range of political groups across the country united for the 'March for Life and Peace'. It aims to protect the peace accords signed with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and highlight the extrajudicial killings targeting social... Еще leaders and human rights activists. The losing candidate in this year’s presidential elections, Gustavo Petro, called the inauguration a «great celebration of the Colombian plutocracy, the power of the richest, the most corrupt, the bloodiest.» Ex-FARC leader Timochenko called on his supporters to create a «new Colombia» out of four years of right-wing government. President Duque was elected on a promise to improve economic growth and renegotiate the peace deal with the FARC.
