China: Xi Jinping delivers address at SCO welcoming dinner

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered an address at the welcoming dinner of the 18th edition of the Shanghai Cooperation Summit in Qingdao on Saturday. Xi stressed that «guided by the Shanghai Spirit, our organisation has delivered fruitful outcomes in security, economic and cultural cooperation and made historic strides in institution-building.» He went on to say that the SCO «has become an... Еще important force for upholding regional security, promoting common development and improving global governance.» At the end of the address, the Chinese leader raised his glass to «the success of the Qingdao summit» and «to a brighter future of the SCO.» The leaders of all eight member states, four observer states and heads of international organisations were in attendance. This year's two-day summit is set to include Pakistan and India as full members after they joined at Astana 2017. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) accounts for almost half of the world's population, more than 20 percent of global GDP and over 60 percent of the Eurasian landmass, making it the largest regional organisation in the world.
