China: Shops closed and streets barren as police checkpoints maintain Wuhan lockdown

The Chinese city of Wuhan, a city of 11 million and the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, appeared deserted on Wednesday, with cafes, restaurants and shops closed and streets empty. Police checkpoints were set up on the main avenues and at the entrances of tunnels and on bridges, while a small number of cars could be spotted.
