The education commission of Beijing ordered a shutdown of all the schools across the city, in a bid to contain the second wave of coronavirus infections emerging in the capital.
Yuqiao Primary school in Beijing's Tongzhou District was be seen fenced up on Wednesday, with teachers and pupils returning to online classes.
The education commission said the universities will also close, with the study and summer holidays schedule remaining without changes.
The measure marks the next step in Beijing municipality's emergency plan including cancellation of over 1,200 flights departing from and arriving at the Chinese capital, sealing the giant Xinfadi wholesale market believed to be the cluster of the new wave and 14-days-long quarantine for its latest visitors.
In Beijing, 31 new COVID-19 cases were registered in the past 24 hours, the Chinese National Health Commission reported on Wednesday.
