China: Putin informs SCO of Korea, Syria and Iran developments

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed concerns over the United States' withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, on behalf of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), while speaking at its 18th Summit in Qingdao on Sunday. «Our countries are concerned about the situation regarding the Iranian nuclear programme. The US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action could destabilise... Еще the situation. Russia stands for the consistent, strict implementation of the JCPOA,” said Putin. Commenting on Syria, the Russian leader said 'great results' have been achieved, with government forces now controlling around 90 percent of the territory. He added that Damascus has been following through all internationally mediated agreements between the warring sides. «The Syrian government is fully fulfilling its obligations and has shown its willingness for political dialogue. Now it’s up to the opposition,» he said. On North Korea, Putin said the SCO should continue to contribute to the normalisation of the situation in the region. «Russia welcomes the upcoming US and North Korea summit and notes the great contribution of the People's Republic of China to resolving the crisis on the Korean Peninsula,» he added.
