China: New Year returns may pose coronavirus escalation risk — Transport Ministry

The flow of passengers expected to return to main cities in China after the New Year festivities could result in an escalation of the novel coronavirus outbreak, said China's Transport Ministry during a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday. «The peak time of spring migration will be 16 days after Chinese New Year. But this year the amount of travellers in the peak time will be fewer than other... Еще years, although the period will be longer. But we still need to the face the impact from the massive passenger flow. Especially the big cities, which are destinations, will be increasingly risky for the escalating epidemic situation,» said Ministry of Transport official Cai Tuanjie. «28,018 cases are confirmed, including 1,153 cured cases and 563 deaths. There are 24,702 suspected cases,» said National Health Commission spokesperson Song Shuli. Over 500 have died in China and more than 28,000 people have been infected with the respiratory disease which is thought to have originated in the city of Wuhan in China in late December. It has since spread to 27 other countries including Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Germany, France, and the United States.
