Thousands of students gathered in Maotanchang in eastern China on Tuesday to take part in the traditional ceremony ahead of tough nationwide university entrance exams. They launched lanterns with inscriptions of their wishes to pass the test.
«I want to go to the [Beijing] Normal University. If I can't, I would like to go the university of medicine or finance, as my family wishes. If I can't make... Еще my dream come true, I would like to make their dream come true,» said Hu Lei, a Maotanchang school student.
Ten million high school students will be taking part in the Gaokao exams, which becomes very stressful for most of them as it's the only way to get into a university.
«As a girl, I am supposed to go the university that is not too bad or too good. They wish I can go through the exam and university smoothly, but nothing exciting» said another student, Yang Jing.
Launching the lanterns is one of the traditional ceremonies in preparation for the exams. Wishes of luck and success are inscribed on paper lanterns before they are released into the skies.
