China: Bus convoy transports students to take notorious college entrance exam

A bus convoy with hundreds of Maotanchang Middle School students on board was filmed departing for the city of Lu An on Wednesday, where they will take what is considered one of the toughest exams in the world, the National Higher Education Entrance Examination, also known as gaokao. The parents were filmed waving and photographing from the sidewalks, as the convoy got underway. Some parents... Еще flanked the convoy with their cars, escorting it to the town's limits. «It's fine for parents to work hard and support [their] kids to prepare for the gaokao, as long as kids can become future stars in areas like science, agriculture or design,» said one of the mothers. «We help them to enter university but they still need to work hard in the university. Accompanying them to prepare [the] gaokao exam is all we can do for them, they need to work hard for the rest of their life.» Maotanchang Middle School is dubbed the largest 'Factory of Gaokao,' since it is seen as preparing students for the gaokao examination with a near-military model that trains students with intensive exercise and homework. Gaokao is a standardised test that all Chinese students are forced to take in order to attend college. Due to the number of students and the level of demand, competition is very high and preparatory schools like Maotanchang Middle School provide mass education to thousands of students to get them ready.
