China's Foreign Ministry said that «Hong Kong affairs are purely the internal affairs of China and any foreign country has no right to interfere,» during a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
«Hong Kong affairs are purely the internal affairs of China and any foreign country has no right to interfere. China is firm to safeguard its sovereignty and safety, maintain the stability and prosperity, oppose the interference from external forces to Hong Kong affairs,» said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.
«We urge the US to correct the mistakes, not impose the so-called 'Hong Kong Autonomy Legislation', stop interfering China's internal affairs including Hong Kong affairs. If the US. persists, China will give a strong response,»
Beijing recently imposed a national security law for Hong Kong that makes acts of subversion, secession, terrorism, and collusion with foreign entities punishable offences subject to prison time, with many having already been arrested under the legislation's purview.
