China: Beijing plans new national security legislation for Hong Kong

China's National People's Congress will deliberate on a new national security bill for Hong Kong, as announced by its spokesperson Zhang Yesui in Beijing on Thursday. Zhang Yesui said that the National People's Congress, open from May 22 until May 28, is set to «deliberate the bill on reviewing a draft decision on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the... Last year, Hong Kong saw the largest protest movement in its history, which started with opposition to a now-scrapped plan to allow extraditions to mainland China before evolving into an overall anti-government demonstration.
