China: Beijing conducts second round of testing to contain COVID-19 cluster

Beijing has launched the second round of the city-wide nucleic acid testing for COVID -19, in a bid to contain the second wave of infections emerging in the Chinese capital. Residents were seen on Sunday at sample collection points, where medical workers were conducting the tests while wearing protective suits. Tests are expected to be carried out on millions of capital's residents especially those who have had close contact with the giant Xinfadi wholesale market, believed to be linked to a new coronavirus cluster. In order to counter the new wave of the pandemic, Beijing has set up a municipality's emergency plan according to which schools were shut down, 1,200 flights departing from and arriving at the Chinese capital were cancelled, 14-day-long quarantine will be instituted for the city's newest visitors, and a compulsory testing for six groups of people will be implemented, among whom medical workers, public sector employees, teachers and students, and residents living in nearby communities. In Beijing, 14 new COVID-19 cases were registered on Sunday, out of 17 confirmed cases country-wide, according to the Chinese National Health Commission.
