China: Beijing condemns US for 'quitting international organisations' as Washington exits WHO

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian condemned the US over their withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), during a press conference held in Beijing on Thursday. «I don't know how (US State Secretary) Pompeo and his supporters dare to talk about integrity, truth and claiming responsibilities. We urge US politicians to listen to the complaints from international society on scrapping the treaties and quitting international organisations,» stated Zhao Lijan. «In the recent years, US has broken its promises and responsibilities and is addicted to scrap the treaties and quit the organisations in the name of 'America First,» he added. The spokesperson also accused US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of producing «fake news to smear and attack China» and urged him to «stop spreading political virus.» «Otherwise, he will be the butt of jokes,» he added. On Wednesday, Pompeo commented on US President Donald Trump's decision to formally withdraw from the WHO, and accused the organisation of having a «long history of corruption and politicisation.»
