China: 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre commemorated with national ceremony

A minute of silence was observed in Nanjing on Wednesday, during a memorial ceremony for the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre. Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng attended the ceremony and called for the «peace of humans», urging both Japan and China to «keep the story in our memory to avoid the recurrence of this historical tragedy». He... Еще went on to say that China will always «insist on the road of peaceful development», and will never «seek hegemony». According to official government figures, at least 300,000 civilians were massacred and raped by Japanese troops entering the country’s capital in 1937, in what was later named the 'Nanjing Massacre'.
