Residents gathered to protest the arrival of a boat carrying tourists to Punta Arenas' Prat dock in the early hours of Monday morning, amid the international coronavirus outbreak.
Local residents expressed anger at the alleged failure to comply with measures imposed by the government, who closed the national ports from 08:00 hours on March 15.
«We have all our children in the houses, we can't... Еще take them out, and they can take out a lot of people who may have health problems and all that,» said one of the protesters.
Punta Arenas Mayor Claudio Radonich clarified that the ship had the approval of the authorities to dock, and that the nearly 300 passengers on board had been tested by medical specialists to rule out the presence of coronavirus.
Sebastian Pinera, president of Chile, announced on Monday the closure of all its borders «by land, sea and air for the transit of foreign people» as of March 18.
