Scuffles broke out between police and student protesters in Santiago on Wednesday during a demo in favour of opening up abortion rights. Protesters hurled objects at police and set rubbish on fire, while the police responded with water cannons. Thousands of protesters took to the streets earlier with banners and signs demanding an extension to abortion rights in Chile. 'Take your rosaries... Еще away from our ovaries,’ female protesters chanted during the march. On August 2017, the Chilean government approved a historic law that decriminalised abortion under three conditions: rape, foetal viability issues and live-threatening danger. A parliamentary group is proposing a bill that would extend the rights of abortion for all without conditions, allowed up until the 14th week of pregnancy.
