Russian explorer Fyodor Konyukhov finished his solo boat voyage across the South Pacific and arrived at the harbour in Puerto Williams, Chile, as seen in footage filmed on Friday.
Konyukhov crossed in a kayak from New Zealand to Chile in 154 days 13 hours and 37 minutes. It's the first of three stages of his journey as he intends to circumnavigate the Southern Hemisphere.
For most of the journey... Еще, the explorer faced tough weather conditions. Konyukhov said he was very glad to enter the Chilean waters and make contact with the navy.
«When I entered the Chilean territorial waters, I became more confident because Chilean sailors are really good. They wouldn't let me get lost in the ocean», said the explorer.
Konyukhov is making his journey on a nine-meter long kayak which has water-proof compartments for food, satellite phones and navigation systems.
«My journey shows that a human being can withstand 150 days in such limited space, working all the time, but only if you pray and God helps you», said the explorer.
Fyodor Konyukhov has sailed five times around the world, crossed the Atlantic 17 times and became the first Russian to climb the highest mountains on all seven continents. He already circumnavigated the Southern Hemisphere aboard a sailing yacht in 2007.
