Chile: Former boxer Mike Tyson deported from Santiago due to criminal record

Former heavyweight boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson was deported from Santiago, Thursday, after being denied entry into the country by airport authorities due to his criminal record in the United States. Footage released from the officials shows Tyson being taken away by security personnel at Santiago's Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport. He had been due to attend an... A police representative commented on the matter, saying, «Inspecting his record, and as the Migratory Law allows, the police has the authority to prevent access to the country for every foreigner who was sentenced for any crime.» «In that context, Mr Tyson, who has sentences for different crimes, was stopped of entering the country and he is waiting to return to his country, which will happen on the next flight,» she added. Tyson was convicted of rape in 1992 and served less than three years of a six year sentence. He is registered as a sex offender in the US. He has also been charged with possession of cocaine and assault.
