Canada: Trudeau welcomes Merkel, May and Abe ahead of G7 summit

During a brief welcoming event with the Japanese Prime Minister, Trudeau said that he was looking forward to discussing with Shinzo Abe «domestic, economic, trade issues» as well as the «important issue of North Korea.» Welcoming new Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Trudeau congratulated his counterpart on his appointment. Conte answered Trudeau in English, saying that he was «very happy and glad to be a guest here.» At the welcoming session with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Trudeau emphasised that both countries are «closely allied not just historically but also in very tangible ways.» May, for her part, noted that she was very pleased to have an opportunity for bilateral talks with Trudeau, «about the issues that matter particularly to the UK and Canada». The G7 meeting is scheduled for June 8-9 at Charlevoix in the Canadian province of Quebec.
