Canada: Toronto van attack death toll hikes to 10

Police cordoned off the intersection of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue in Toronto's North York district on Monday, after a after a white rental van mounted a pavement mowing down pedestrians for reportedly three kilometres (two miles). Speaking at a presser soon afterwards, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale declined to treat the incident as an act of terror. «After speaking with top security officials — based on information to date — there appears to be NO National Security connection to the horrible event in Toronto today,» Goodale said on Twitter. The vehicle initially fled the scene, but the driver was later apprehended in a reported standoff with the police. The driver allegedly emerged from the vehicle holding something which resembled a hand gun but later yielded without any shots being fired. The 25-year-old suspect has been arrested and investigations are underway.
