Canada: 'No justice, no peace' sit-in held in front of Toronto police headquarters

A sit-in protest organized by Black Lives Matter activists was held in front of the Toronto police headquarters on Friday. A section of College Street was taken over by hundreds of protesters chanting slogans like «No justice, no peace. Abolish the police.» Demonstrators also painted a massive inscription on the street reading «Defund the police». The death of George Floyd in Minnesota last month triggered a worldwide movement against police brutality and anti-Black racism. A motion proposed recently by the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the Canadian parliament to look into allegations of systemic racism within the Royal Canadian Mounted police did not find enough support among other parties.
