Bulgaria: Sofia protests 'for' and 'against' Pirin ski resort

Two protests collided on the streets of Sofia on Thursday, protesting 'for’ and ‘against’ the government’s decision to allow further constructions of ski runs and lifts on Bulgaria’s mountainous Pirin National Park. Anti-government protesters chanted 'Down with Mafia' and held banners reading 'We Stand Strong' as the marched through the streets of the capital. A counter-protest also took place... Еще, with protesters marching in favour of the expansion of Bansko ski resort holding banners reading, 'I want to ski in Bulgaria' and 'Support the ski capital of the Balkans'. Mayor of Bansko ski resort Georgi Ikonomov called on Bulgarians to oppose the 'green' activists saying, «All of those pseudo ecologists are holding back the development of Bulgaria.» Protests against low wages and better economic conditions also took place on Thursday, marking Bulgaria's first day of rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
