Bulgaria: President calls for government to resign as tensions escalate

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev called for the resignation of the government and the end of «the mafia way of ruling» during a televised address on Saturday before he met thousands of supporters in the streets of Sofia. «The mafia way of ruling the country provoked free Bulgarians from all ages and all political views, to erect demands for lawfulness and basic citizen's freedoms, systematically violated in the past few years,» said Radev adding that the national sentiment of anti-mafia rule overpowers the large and corrupt system. His comments came as tensions escalated in the country after two of the president's aides were arrested in a police raid at Radev's headquarters earlier this week.
