Bulgaria: Macron determined to preserve EU interests in Iran

French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed the EU’s willingness to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — also known as the Iran nuclear deal — during a presser in the EU-Western Balkans summit in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia on Thursday. He stressed that the European Union is determined to preserve the JCPOA agreement and protect the interests of European companies in Iran... Еще. With regard to the Western Balkans he noted that it wouldn’t be “serious” to open a process of European enlargement “without conditions”. The French President stated that he “did everything he could to explain and persuade [the United States] that it was bad idea to withdraw from the JCPOA.” He repeated his conviction that the 2015 Iran deal was “a good deal” and added that the “final objective” is to maintain this agreement with an American signature as well. He concluded by saying that “the indirect consequences of the American decision “is that they “will promote the Russian and Chinese positions in the region.”
