Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Palace of Justice in the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Tuesday night, to denounce the sole nominee to be the country’s next Prosecutor-General, Ivan Geshev. The protest was organised by the group 'Justice For All' and was titled 'Lighting the Light in the Dark — for Law and Freedom'.
Footage shows hundreds marching in the night, holding lamps and flashing... Еще mobile phone torches in a symbolic gesture, calling on Bulgarian President Roumen Radev not to sign the decree appointing Geshev to the post if he is elected.
Speaking to the crowd, Velislav Velichkov, Leader of the 'Justice For All' organisation said, «We will ask soon if the right way to elect a General Prosecutor in the EU is the same way it happens in Bulgaria. We do not agree and Europe must understand.»
Geshev, who protesters claim has links to the Bulgarian mafia, is currently the only nominee for the post, which is scheduled for October 24.
