Bulgaria: Bulgarian journalist's murder suspect seized in Germany

Officials confirmed that a man was arrested in Germany on Tuesday over the rape and murder of Bulgarian television journalist Viktoria Marinova, at a special briefing in Sofia, Bulgaria on Wednesday. Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov and Bulgarian Interior Minister Mladen Marinov confirmed the suspect as Severin Nadejdov Krassimirov, a 21-year-old Bulgarian citizen from the city of Ruse. The... Еще suspect lived close to the crime scene and left the country for Germany on Sunday, the day after the rape and murder. During the briefing, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov condemned the media for jumping to conclusions that the murder could have political motives, and accused Bulgarian media outlets of defaming the country. Marinova was found raped and murdered in the north-eastern town of Ruse on Saturday. The first, and last, episode of her programme aired on September 30 and focused on an investigation into alleged corruption by Bulgarian businessmen and politicians involving EU funds. Her brutal murder has provoked anger both internally and from abroad, as well as speculation that the murder could be linked to her work as an investigative journalist.
