Brazil: Workers decry education and health investment freeze in Sao Paulo

Thousands of public sector workers took to the streets of Sao Paulo on Friday to protest against state Governor Geraldo Alckmin’s plans to freeze investment in health and education for the next two years. Alckmin’s decision to freeze investment comes on the back of Brazilian President Michele Temer’s austerity package ‘PEC 55’, which will freeze public investments for the next twenty years... Еще. Temer has defended the spending cap as a necessity to win over creditors and to strengthen Brazil’s economy. Temer’s twenty-year freeze has been called “the most socially regressive in the world” according to a senior UN official.
