Brazil: ‘UK’s decision on Skripal case is premature’ — former OPCW director-general

The first Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Jose Mauricio de Figueiredo Bustani believes the UK made a premature decision to blame Russia for the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, in an interview from Rio de Janeiro on Friday. Bustani went on to say that it's impossible to «decide in 24 hours what type of poison was used and... Еще where it comes from.» He also questioned why the OPCW was not «immediately» asked to take part in the investigation since it has the «capability.» «How do you control and limit the use of the poison to only two people?» Bustani asked. «If it is Novichok — as they announced that it was — it is not something that will not affect many more people around you,» he argued, adding «even those who used the poisonous gas. They have to take many precautions because they would be affected by use of such gas.» Bustani trusts that the OPCW inspectors will reach an «unpolitical» decision, after their participation in the Skripal investigation was requested by Russia.
