Thousands of women marched through the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Monday to protest against a recent congressional committee vote to make abortion illegal without exception in Brazil. Protesters marched, chanting «it is our choice», with some carrying children on their shoulders. One protester held a sign reading «what is a sin for some cannot be a crime for everyone.» Scuffles broke out... Еще between protesters and police when the march arrived outside the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly, and police fired tear gas at the crowds. Abortion is currently permitted in Brazil in cases of rape, a life-threatening pregnancy or a fetus with anencephaly, a birth defect affecting the brain. However, the congressional committee last week adopted a measure that would cancel these exceptions. The protest in Rio was just one of several organised in cities across Brazil on Monday.
